Sunday morning saw the city’s bikers from over 23 biker clubs ride out on the Mumbai leg of India Bike Week’s legendary Chai & Pakoda Breakfast Run. This ride marked the first event of the Festival’s 2016 social calendar. Mumbai’s Chai & Pakoda ride is the beginning of an All India biking journey leading to the monster festival that is IBW 2016 in Goa on the 19th and 20th of February, 2016.
This Sunday’s breakfast ride brought together the whole brotherhood of biking enthusiasts – from dedicated aficionados riding heavy-duty Harleys and Triumphs, to the more casual riders on their Pulsars and Yamahas. Riders gathered at Vashi’s Centre One Mall at 7AM, before setting off on the 76km ride to Sheetal Dhabha via the old Mumbai-Pune highway.
This year, safety was the key theme, and the starting point featured the registered bikers inducted through a ‘safety riding’ session by the DCP of Vashi, Mr. Arvind Salve who also flagged off the event. Post the inauguration, the bikers took to the road in packs of 30, each led by an IBW Marshal. The Marshals featured as pack leaders patrolling and guiding the stream of speed machines, maintaining a synchronized proximity between each riding group. Medical support was also provided as the IBW team set up a tailing Ambulance service for the ride.
On their arrival at the stopover destination, the bikers were greeted with a breakfast buffet that has become such a feature of India Bike Week’s hundreds of Rides. At the venue, the IBW team organized amazing contests like Best Dressed Rider, Youngest Rider, Coolest Bike, Best Rider Etiquette and finally the Farthest Traveled Rider. Winners received exclusive Wrangler branded biking gear to mark the occasion. The session ended with a special performance by musician, Bianca Love, who concluded this biking session with the cheer from hundreds of happy bikers.
Commenting on the return of the most anticipated inter-city biking rides, Martin da Costa, CEO of 70 EMG said, “We’ve always loved organizing the Chai & Pakoda Rides for our Biker brothers and sisters. It’s been fantastic response over the last four years, with this Ride especially showing the world how united India’s Biking fraternity has become. The growing support towards the C&P sessions over the years is just a brilliant testament to the evolving biking culture and spirit in India. We’ve especially enjoyed highlighting the safety issue the through the ride this year. It’s been a fantastic day, and we can’t wait for February, and the biggest India Bike Week at Goa of all time!
Swati Mohan, managing director, Fox International Channels commented that, “The coming weeks will see the C&P Breakfast Runs taking place across Delhi, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Kochi and Bengaluru, while also featuring across Nagpur-Wardha-Amravati, Pune-Ahmednagar-Aurangabad and Surat-Baroda-Ahmedabad through tri-city rides. This year we are confident of extending our outreach to a diverse group of bikers as we look forward to building the culture for biking in India.”
In its 4th year now, India Bike week will bring back the stars of the Festival – live bands, movie screenings, Bikini Bike Wash, the National Custom Bike Build-Offs, and National Stunt Championship, along with hundreds of new Bike launches, custom and vintage bike displays, and sessions with international Biker Legends. Also the highlight to the event will be the “IBW Main Street”, with the 2016 Festival showcasing the first Biker Carnival Parade ever organized in India. This year, IBW also brings iconic biking experiences – the best names in motorbike stunt championships, a biking film festival, the international Bike Expo, the Hard Enduro Challenge, and the infamous Moto Trails show by Dougie Lampkin. There will also be a chance to see some of the greatest bikes on display in India at the Vintage bike concourse and the motorcycle inspired art at the Moto Art Collective.
